AMBUSHED URI

At around 5:30 a.m. the four Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) fedayeen terrorist have lobbed 17 grenades in 3 minutes which assassinated 18 soldiers of Indian army. A gun battle ensued lasting for six hours, during which all the four terrorists were killed, with an additional of 19 - 30 soldiers were injured.

It is believed that the terrorists have spent at least a day in the mountains above the brigade headquarters complex, observing their target. They had over 50 incendiary grenades with target to fuel nearly hundreds of 200 litre oil barrels which were stacked. It contained diesel for trucks, petrol for the Maruti Gypsies and kerosene for cooking food in their high altitude posts on the Pir Panjal range. The four terrorist cut through the barbed wire fence with 4 Ak-47, 4 Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGLs) grenades, five hand grenades, two radio sets, two GPS handsets, food and medicine packets with Pakistani markings. The four-man assault team first shot a sentry, three headed towards tents where the soldiers lodged and the two buildings. The fourth terrorist moved towards the officers’ mess. The terror attack has finely tuned tensions between India and Pakistan.
