Meghalaya Insurgent Group Signs Historic Peace Pact.

The Achik NationalVolunteer Council (ANVC) which took up arms and went off main stream way back in 1995 finally signed the peace pact on September 24th at New Delhi in the presence of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju,Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Home Minister Roshan Warjri, Union Home secretary Anil Goswami,senior officials of the union and state governments and leaders of both ANVC and ANVC(B).

The ANVC raised the demand for a separate home land in the year 1995 for the region of Garo hills,also known as Achik land. It took to arms to achieve its objective.
