Mizoram - 2014

2014 has been a mixed bag for Mizoram. While a feat in women empowerment was achieved when the legislative assembly had its first women candidate, sadly it took 27 years for the same. However, it should be lauded as a start has been made. In the Lok Sabha elections Mr. C L Raula retained the lone seat for Congress. Tragedy struck when Peter Biaksangzuala, a 23 year old mid fielder, died while playing in the Mizoram Premier League, the flagship football competition of the state. While 2000 Bru refugees made it back to the state the fate of many more hangs in the balance. The state was brought to shame by the acts of a few men alleged to have wronged the integrity of a woman in front of her husband. After a gap of nearly 9 years the Miss Mizoram contest was back on the ramp. H Lalchhanhimi was crowned Miss Mizoram.

Peter Biaksangzuala, 23, fell awkwardly on his head after scoring the equaliser for Bethlehem Vengthlang FC during the Mizoram Premier League. Peter was left instantly paralysed when he landed awkwardly on his head while trying to celebrate his goal which in turn damaged his spine severely. Five days later, on October 19th Peter was pronounced dead in the hospital.
