But military commanders who served in the north east know the deceased leader more as a Bibleman – someone who believed firmly in the power of the slogan: “Nagaland for Christ”. Even state politicians and intelligence agencies posted in Nagaland earlier say, Swu was “more of a Naga philosopher than a combative militant man”. 

To others, he was a unifying factor and an umbilical cord for Tangkhul Nagas in general (of Manipur) with Nagas in “present state Nagaland” – especially with Semas, the tribe of Isak Swu. The uniquenessof Swu’s role in the Naga militancy and the life of compatriot Thuingaleng Muivah have been truly unparallel. With Swu’s death -- now the fear is about“tribalism” – something not new for Nagas. For New Delhi, the apprehension today is can this death of an ailing leader now hamper the peace process.
