DEMOCRATIC ROOTS
In Meghalaya there are two lakh eligible voters, who are yet to be enrolled. An awareness is therefore being created for voters to come out and exercise their rights in a country having democratic roots, especially in the foundation of the traditional democratic institutions. There was therefore this launching of the Electoral Literacy Club. These are intended for promoting electoral literacy among the citizens through these clubs countrywide, specially for making future voters of how, when , where, what and why they should take part in electing their representatives at all levels, whether it is to the state assembly, Lok Sabha and other levels. The target of imparting this knowledge is targeted to youngsters between 14 to 17 years of age to enable to prepare themselves for their rights to vote also of the new voters in the age group of 18 to 21 years. Their votes very much matter in having their faith in the ballot. Along all of these past years, voting pattern has been blind, where voters back up different parties and individuals like a flock of sheep without fully understanding the impact of the consequences.
