‘Skill Development

through

Silvery Jute’

One of the areas which has received the focus of the NDA Government led by Narendra Modi is skill development in all those arenas which have vast potentiality for employment avenues. His ‘Act East Policy’ with particular reference to north eastern states lays stress on women empowerment and skill development among others.

It was in 2010 that National Jute Board took a unique and bold decision to set up a jute technology park, the first venture of its kind in the north east, by the name of Assam Golden Fibre Jute Park Pvt. Ltd. at Santipur under Narsingpur block of Cachar, 22 km from here. It is equally gratifying that people came forward and donated 36 bighas of land with a hope that they would get jobs in the industry.

With boost up from the Board, infrastructure facilities have been built up and the jute park has became operational where around 1000 women from self help groups (SHG) combine together to make it a perennial source of revenue for themselves and also for keeping the only venture in north east kicking and going. The jute park, in fact, has opened up for the women new vista to engage themselves in the making of diversified products of jute. They in turn have built up ground level employment opportunities in order to strengthen themselves economically.
