1. Why was Windows so named?
Abhijeet Deka, Guwahati
Ans. There is no perfect answer given by Microsoft Corporation for this but, in computing, a window is a visual area containing some kind of user interface. It usually has a rectangular shape.  It displays the output of and may allow input to one or more processes.
Windows are primarily associated with graphical displays, where they can be manipulated with a mouse cursor.
A graphical user interface (GUI) using windows as one of its main metaphors is called a windowing system.
2. I want to switch from Windows Operating system to Linux Operating system? Will it be easy?
Banshem Syiem, Shillong
Ans. Look at it this way: Step outside and take a look at all the different vehicles driving along the road. These are all vehicles designed with more or less the same purpose: To get you from A to B via the roads. Note the variety in designs.
But, you may be thinking, car differences are really quite minor: they all have a steering wheel, foot-pedal controls, a gear stick, a handbrake, windows & doors, a petrol tank. . . If you can drive one car, you can drive any car!
Quite true. But did you not see that some people weren’t driving cars, but were riding motorbikes instead. . ?
Switching from one version of Windows to another is like switching from one car to another, for example from Windows XP to Windows Vista. However switching from Windows to Linux is like switching from a car to a motorbike. They may both be OSes/road vehicles. They may both use the same hardware/roads. They may both provide an environment for you to run applications/transport you from A to B. But they use fundamentally different approaches to do so. So if you want to switch from Windows to Linux be prepared for a change, change in interface, change in the way you do work, changes in the applications you use etc. But you will have a great advantage Windows can not be customized but Linux is an Open Source and can be customized according to your needs.  There are many other advantages of Linux over Windows.
3. I can not open my ‘Pen Drive’. When I try to open it, a message box saying “Can not open this file” pops up? Please help.
Sushil - Kohima
Ans. This can generally happen if your Pen Drive is infected with a virus. But you can still try to open it by:-
·    Right click and then click on explore
·    Go to address bar and then navigate to your Pen Drive from there
This option will allow you to open your pen drive. It is advised that you copy your important data to the Hard Disk and then format the pen drive.
It is recommended that you run a Full System Virus Scan and check if your computer is infected with other viruses.
