WORLD CUP CRAZE 

People specially of Shillong are well known for their  craze  over  football,  especially  in  the  emergence  of  the  Shillong  Lajong  Football  Club,  which   has  further  taken  steps  in  lifting   Shillong  football  to  the  National  Standard  Level.  With  the  start  of  the  World  Cup  at  Lazhriki  Stadium  in  Moscow,  the  craze  of  the  footballers  grew  more  intense.   In  the  earlier  years,   the  fans  of  the  game,  during  World  Cup   would  go  down   either  to  Sohra  or  Mawsynram  with  their  TV  sets  to  watch  the  games  from  these  lower  elevation  areas,  sloping  down  to  Bangladesh.  Now  however,  the  story  is  different,  as  each  and  every  home  have  a  Direct  to  Home  TV  connections  and  can  relax  in  their  bedrooms  or  drawing  rooms.  In  the  opening  of  the  Russian  World  Cup,   viewers    were  also  enthralled   in  the  opening  ceremony of  seeing  their  favourite  stars  singers  perform,  including  Robbie  Williams of  the  United  Kingdom  and  Aida  Garifullina  from  the  host  country  Russia. Where in the opening game, the Russia thumbed Saudi Arabia 5-0 to win the opening game of FIFA 2018 World Cup and in doing so keeping the record of the host nations not losing their opening games at the cup intact.

Sikkim Summit for Tribal Status 2018 was held at Gangtok on May 2018. The summit was organized by Eleven Indigenous Ethnic Communities of Sikkim (EIECOS) in collaboration with Sikkim Commission for Backward Classes and Social Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim. At this summit, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling emphasized on tribal status restored for Sikkim Nepali communities.

Chief Minister Stated that the ‘historical injustice was done to Sikkimese Nepali community. which he wants to restore for 11 left out Nepali communities of Sikkim. The matter which he had placed before all leaders in the nation including Prime Minister Narendra Modiji in his visit to Sikkim in 2016 as well.

Zenith Sangma confident

of Danggo staying in Congress

A day after the Congress flag was brought down and NPP flag was hoisted in Ranikor during the maiden visit of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, the Congress has termed this move as an ‘insult’ to the party and remarked that ‘every political party should be honoured. The Government lead by Conrad Sangma promised the people of Ranikor to upgrade Ranikor Administrative Unit to Ranikor Civil Sub Division in the presence of its MLA Mr. Martin Danggo. It is reported that till now Congress has not termed this incident as “anti-party activities”.

Speaking to media person in Congress Bhavan Zenith Sangma said “We take this flag issue very seriously because this is an insult and humiliation to the party.  He also claimed that Mr. Danggo will not quit Congress for NPP as he is one of the senior most politicians in the State. Sangma also asserted that action will be taken in this regard. It may be mentioned that the Congress members of the Ranikor block unit resigned en-mass to join the National People’s Party yesterday.

Commenting on the mass resignation of the Congress members in Ranikor, Sangma said that dissolution of the block unit will be done by the District Committee and the Block members are not authorized to dissolve the same.

“Students suffers due to ban of Internet”-

Zenith Sangma

Former Minister Zenith Sangma has accused the NPP led MDA Government of misusing its power in banning the internet. Zenith Sangma said that “The state government has misused the power vested to them, due to the ban of internet in the state; all the students who had to apply online for admission were lost as most of the cyber café was shutdown. Who is responsible for the students who lost their admission? Is it the people or the Government?” He also accused the Government for violating the “Right to Information” of the people.

Ranikor likely to get upgraded to Civil Sub Division

In a public gathering held at Ranikor Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in the presence of its MLA Mr. Martin Danggo announced that Ranikor Administrative Unit will be upgraded to Ranikor Civil Sub Division.

Sitting Congress MLA Martin Danggo submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister to fulfill the demand of creation of Civil Sub-Division at Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills. In a meeting the Congress flag was also put down which indicate that its sitting MLA Mr. Martin M Danggo will resign as an MLA so that he could contest in the by election on NPP ticket.

The NPP leaders who were present in the public meeting were Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Home Minister James K. Sangma, C&RD Minister Snaiwbhalang Dhar, and the Deputy Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Mr. T.D. Shira.

Atal Tinkering Laboratory launched in   

South Garo Hills

South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner H. D. B. Sangma inaugurated the first ever Atal Tinkering Laboratory at Ampati Government Higher Secondary School. The state of the art laboratory is the first of its kind in Garo Hills and second in the State. The lab has been set up under the Atal Innovation Mission of Niti Aayog. Under the mission, the Union Government plans to establish such labs in schools across the country. The aim is to create scientific temper and cultivate the spirit of curiosity and innovation in young minds. The lab is mentored and knowledge powered by SRJNA. SRJNA is founded by the alumni of IITs dedicated to empowering the ecosystem in education of k-12. 100+ ATL labs have already been established across the country so far.

Among others who attended the gathering were DSEO, C. J. Sangma, DSEO, R. Z. Das, Labour Inspector C. B. Sangma, Ampati Government H. S. School Principal K. R. Marak and Assistant Lecturers Dr. Endy Smera M Marak and D. M. T. Sangma.

A decade-long debate for a strategy to fight against non-degradable polymer and synthetic organic materials got an impetus, as India becomes host country to celebrate World Environment Day (WED) 2018. The country had a big role in Stockholm environment conference in 1972 where United Nations announced the day of celebration across the world. The then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi in her historical speech in the plenary session of conference uttered, “The solution of these problems cannot be isolated phenomena of marginal importance but must be an integral part of the unfolding of the very process of development.” The world today realized the context and unfolded concern of Mrs. Gandhi after 46 years. India is the host country this year and has selected the topic to raise awareness among common mass and  get involve to - Beat Plastic Pollution. In 2005, India first time realized the impending threat of poly bags on agriculture and marine life. In the technical discourses, it was suggested to the states to put a ban on the use of plastic carry bags and do not allow the industry to grow up. The then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, also held the portfolio of environment had reiterated the concern over growing trend of plastic use in daily life.
