Even the most avid readers of newspapers often miss some small news that tells the tale of major transformations. Many among us might have overlooked a news-piece "41 Kuki National Front cadres voted in 2019 polls”.

The news appeared almost in all dailies of India. Yet chances are that the people may not have attached much importance to it. In fact, they cannot be blamed. How does it really matter, if 41 people voted in a particular polling booth for the new Lok Sabha 2019 in Manipur? They are among the millions of voters. Hence, does it really matter?

MoU between GSI Training Institute (GSITI) and Guwahati University (GU), Guwahati on Collaboration for Academic and Research Programs leading to Ph.D. degree.

 The Geological Survey of India Training Institute (GSITI) and Guwahati University (GU), Guwahati have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Collaboration for Academic and Research Programs leading to Ph.D. degree. The MoU was signed by Shri Ch Venkateswara Rao, Deputy Director General & Head, M-V GSITI and Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Registrar, GU in the presence of Dr. Mridul Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor, Guwahati University. Dr. Taraknath Pal, Director, TC, GSITI and Sri Somnath Sharma, Director, SU: Assam, GSI were also there in the GSTI team, while Prof. Utpal Sarma, co-ordinator, IAQC, Prof. Dilip Kakati, Dean, faculty of science, Prof. Parag Phukan, HoD Geological sciences Department, Prof. Sauravpran Goswami, Dean, faculty of Arts, and other faculty members were in GU team. This MoU between Geological Survey of India Training Institute and Gauhati University will enhance the Research & Development (R&D) activities in the North-Eastern part of India.

NGT had to intervene into the alleged illegal coal mining by Star Cement Limited after hundreds of villagers from Lumshnong and nearby of East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya registered strong protest opposing public hearing for expansion of limestone mining in the area, conducted by Meghalaya Pollution Control Board and Deputy Commissioner of the district in the office premises of Star Cement Pvt Ltd March 20 this year.

Vote for the 2 seats of Barak Valley, Silchar and Karimganj, were polled on April 18. The fate of candidates is sealed in ballot boxes. Till the results are out, they sit with fingers crossed. But, arithmetic and chemistry both will be at play, to predict the winner. An analysis of it at the same time is also a part of the responsible media.

As the third and final round of the Lok Sabha elections in Assam – which incidentally sends 14 lawmakers to the union legislature – is on April 23 last, the one single but crucial question in a curious mind is, will the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), this time be able to retain at least one of the three Lok Sabha seats: Kaliabor, Barpeta and Dhubri, or will it fare poorly as it did in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in the State when it drew blank?
