The apathy by the central media (be it electronic or print) has given rise to the sense of distrust, frustration and anguish amongst the people of this region. The unification of the cultural heritage, which seems to be the pride of this nation, has been remaining on papers alone. Are the concerned central agencies ignorant and unaware of the distinct cultures of the eight North-Eastern states, be it Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura or Sikkim?

Ever the exotic, Northeast to add a hint of vanilla to its unfolding mysteries, thanks to an effort by Spices Board of India, which had airlifted 20,000 metres of vanilla vines to Tripura in 2005, a step, appears like a persuasive tribute to the world’s favourite ice-cream flavour. In order to attract export market, the State Government has initiated a plan to make Tripura a vanilla hub for the region by next few years, as the state is blessed by a favourable agro climatic conditions for vanilla.

Jonathone N. Sangma was an aspirant for getting elected as a member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. The irony was however, that during the campaign, Jonathone lost his life, killed in an explosion of an improvised explosive device, the sound which shook the small village of Sawilgre, across the Simsang River.
