The asset of a Nation are its citizen. By 2020, India is set to become the world’s youngest nation with 64% of population in the working age group. Unbalanced and unequal opportunity provided to these youths will result in a divided society which will be fragmented by few really developed ones and other left to fend for themselves. This might happen in the northeastern part of the country especially in Assam. The controlling of population in Assam is of utmost importance. Ironically the people who can afford to have multiple babies are going for family planning and people who are financially not sound are having more than two dependents and don’t want any family planning. The outcome is that the quality of social life varies to such extent that most of the kids form the economically weaker section turn to become unemployable youths. The case in Assam is such that the population of the state rose by 1 crore in just 16 years. That is an alarming number for a state with an approximate population of 3.39 crores. The ruling government seems to have got to the crux of the matter there by in which keeping the caste creed, tribal non tribal politics aside. They have decided to frame a ‘Population Policy for Assam’. A welcome step in creating all round developed youths by 2030 when the youth population globally will be around 1.3 billion according to UN estimates. It must be understood that Youths are not numbers who make up for the vote bank politics and if that is realized by the parties across India then steps to control unacceptable population growth can easily be achieved. One needs to see the reaction of the political outfit All India United democratic Front (AIUDF) to this policy in the future? Tragically in the guise of fundamental rights people abuse the constitution. It’s about time that parents be held responsible for uneducated kid, unruly kid, for anti-social kid and we will see a sharp control of population. Right to good quality of life is the responsibility of the Parents as much as that of the government. Negligence by both should be a punishable offence. Both should be equally held responsible. Elections are coming and the judiciary has landed a serious blow to the government with terminating the 10,323 jobs of school teachers. With inroads of BJP in the North East, can the BJP dislodge the King of the Reds Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in his bastion which seems improbable though? However with still time left for the election, the mood of the electorate is hard to decipher.
