LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

India has averted any major terror strike from the terror group ISIS till date. However the trail of young Indians lured to the ISIS is itself alarming. Recently detected the network of recruitment for the ISIS in Barak Valley of Assam is cause of worry not for only the state of Assam but the entire country. On 10th of July it was confirmed that around 20 youths belonging from Kerela were now in Islamic state camps in Syria and Iraq. Down south and now far- east corner of India, ISIS recruiters are active. With the top of our country the Kashmir valley at unrest, the situation in domestic front of the country needs more attention. Not only this, India is being used as a de-facto route by young Bangladeshi men to join the Islamic State. From a global perspective, the highest number of terrorist attacks in recent years has been in the Near East and South Asia. The number of terrorist attacks in this region in 2011 amounted to almost 8,000 attacks, which is more than the triple of the attacks in Africa, Europe, Eurasia, East Asia and Pacific and Western Hemisphere combined.

The URI attacks and the consequent reply by the Indian army shows a firm resolve by the present government in dealing with Nation’s security. However claim and counter claim on both sides of the Actual Line of Control makes one nervous as our great country is at cross roads of greater heights of development for both its citizens and mankind as a whole. The resolve to implement GST (Goods Service Tax) at the start of the new finance year shows signs of things to come. We have brought for you a comprehensive article on the same.

While the political drama in Meghalaya has subsided that in Arunachal Pradesh refuses to lay to rest. The role of the governor (as pointed out in our February issue) was unconstitutional and the Governor had to vacate his seat for the role played in the entire saga. Though removed unceremoniously, Rajkhowa had achieved what the major coalition partner of the present NDA government would have wanted, an unstable Congress Government. But he has actually achieved more by breaking the Congress and leaving Congress with only one MLA in former CM Nabam Tuki. Only time will tell whether the dramatic fall of governments should have been a cause of worry for the central government if development is the prime agenda on which it had come to power?

Team EP also met with Olympian Shiva Thapa and the man with a dream to create ‘Diabetes Free India’ Dr. Rajendra Nandekar. Both the interviews will give us an insight on how great people think.

As holidays and festive seasons are near we hope you have a blessed time all around.
