The unprecedented police action on the five boys’ hostels of the university, six professors of the university and seven student leaders are lodged in jail under judicial custody with the arrested students and teachers refusing bail. Meanwhile K. Yugindro Singh, the Pro Vice Chancellor on whose complaint the police action took place has suspended the six arrested professors, following their remand in judicial custody.

The expansion work of the Jowai-Ratacherra road was approved under Phase-III of the National Highway Development Programme which connects Meghalaya with neighbouring North Eastern States including Assam and Mizoram.The National Highway project was constructed at a cost of Rs 683 Crore which will reduce the travel time between Jowai and Ratacherra from four hours to two hours at present.

Political tremor was felt in Meghalaya, yet of not a high intensity, as the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government remains intact, even with the defeat of Martin Danggo, the ruling party National People Party (NPP) candidate in the by-election in the Ranikor constituency in South West Khaki Hills, Martin M. Danggo however had succeed to raise the status of Ranikor into a civil Sub-Division. The irony however was that NPP was defeated by a candidate of the ruling partner, United Democratic Party (UDP) which was considered and regarded as a friendly match.
