Media of Barak and Brahmaputra Valleys have umpteen times brought into light the clandestine business in coal and Burmese betel nut, depriving the state exchequer of huge revenue. CBI did start investigation on the directive of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal nearly two years ago. But, quite mysteriously, it halted after making some progress. Considering the serious ramification of the scam, a border resident Ajit Basumatary, prepared a detailed representation on the widespread network of black diamond racket spreading from the Sutarkandi check gate of Karimganj to Khliehriat, Dawki and Guwahati to involvement of high and low administrative as well as police officials, political leaders and a surfeit of traders.  The representation was submitted to P K Musahary, Chairperson, Lokayukta, Meghalaya, who advised the CBI to take up the investigation.

A maverick lady officer of the Manipur Police Service, who was recently stripped of her charge as the Additional SP of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), alleged that Manipur Chief Minister, Nongthombam Biren, pressurized her to release Lhukhosei Zou, a man accused of being a drugs kingpin. Zou was arrested with a huge consignment of contraband narcotic substance in 2018 after the Chief Minister himself personally authorized the arrest.

Zou, an elected BJP representative to the Autonomous District Council, ADC, of Chandel, was then serving as the Chairman of the ADC Chandel, a powerful post equivalent to the CM in the district level.

Western Assam sans any industry worth naming in last century but then under the British era, a match factory was set up at Dhubri by a Swedish Company named  as Assam Match Company ( Amco) in 1925.  It was a lone industry in Western Assam till Bongaigaon Refinery and Petrochemical Limited (BRPL) which now known as OIL Bongaigaon Refinery (BGR), came into being in 70s.

Again due to change of ownership of Amco , it came to be known as Western India Match Company ( Wimco), when Jatia group of Company  took over all the five match factories in India – Dhubri ( Assam), Calcutta, Madras (Chennai), Bombay (Mumbai and Baraily ( Uttar Pradesh) in 1979

Political scams are not new to Kerala where only the Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by Communist Party of India (Marxist), and the United Democratic Front (UDF) led by Congress have a strong base. In the previous UDF tenure, a solar panel scam hit the state politics in which allegations were levelled against several top Congress leaders. Saritha Nair was named as the prime accused in this case. It was alleged that Saritha Nair was very influential in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) when Oommen Chandy was the Chief Minister.   The inquiry is still under progress. LDF used this scam as a ladder to power.
