In the course of pandemic, corona warriors have been working hard day and night to heal the affected ones, yet there is a long way, for the situation to turn to into normalcy. Meghalaya Covid cases have been rising with each day and the Government in collaboration with medical officers is leaving no stone unturned to give a solid defense against Covid 19.

Eastern Panorama reporter Donboklang Wanniang interacted with the veteran Director of Health Services Dr. A Warr, who have been tracking the cases since day one, and gave us an insight of the overall situation. Despite his busy schedule, he gave us his excerpts which are as follows:

Chandni Singhi, a 28 year old debayang (physically challenged) girl paints her imagination by creative pencil, colour and still camera, setting an example of a cherished young woman, who is living her life, beyond her challenges. She not only paints the vivid nature and landscapes but also reveals her deep love towards animals and living beings.

Open threat to newspapers by Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in a public function at Sabroom on Sept 11, 2020 has triggered severe reaction in media circles across the country that embarrassed BJP party. The reaction against Deb has spread across USA, Canada, London, Bangladesh and Myanmar besides, flooding criticism in social media. Tripura media have become hostile against the government and indecent behaviour of Chief Minister towards journalists. The apex body of media – Tripura Assembly of Journalists (TAJ) met with Governor Ramesh Bais seeking his intervention to direct the Chief Minister to withdraw his statement and seek apology. The matter has also reached to top leaders of BJP who summoned him to Delhi on the next day along with BJP state President Dr Manik Saha. The BJP leaders here explained to the central leaders that the government is yet to fulfil any of its poll promises, instead of unification of leaders and MLAs, Biplab Deb disconnected from all, bureaucrats are unhappy with the Chief Minister and now he resorted to antagonism with media.

As incessant downpour lashed in Meghalaya for almost a week starting from 20 September 2020 has left a trail of devastation in many parts of the state, leading to deaths of at least dozen of people besides damaging properties, roads, and bridges in different parts of the state. According to Meteorological Department, Meghalaya received a whopping of 260 mm of rainfall especially in Mawsynram areas for at least three days continuously.

In East Khasi Hills 8 people were reported killed due to landslide in Madanrting, Laban and Police Reserve and in Nongstoin of West Khasi Hills, two deaths were reported of drowning while one person was missing and in Mawjai, 6 people were drowned after their vehicle was swept away by strong currents when crossing a river.

The COVID-19 pandemic is probably been the most devastating of financial and social crisis of recent times, leading to suspension of almost all economic activity and forcing nationwide lockdown across the globe.

In India, Tourism contributes approximately 5.06 per cent in India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) yet tourism can be seen as the worst hit sector in the country. The ongoing pandemic, travel restrictions, and the country wide lockdown have brought the entire tourism industry to a standstill, and unlike other sectors, tourism will take longer to recover as it does not fall under ‘Essential Commodities’.
