Bodos in UN Platform

The agitating Bodo leaders have raised the Bodoland problem in the session of the United Nations working group on indigenous population held in Geneva recently.

The Bodo leaders raised the issue of land problem,human rights and the separate state before the UN session.When asked about the direct gain in the political field by raising the issue before the UN session,Dr.Devkanta Ramchiary said that it is nothing but to share the problems of the Bodo people with the world population.When the Dhansiri irrigation project at Bhairabkunda started,hundreds of Bodo people lost their lands to the project and compensation is yet to be paid to the land owners.

The confronting Bodo leaders went together to participate in the five day session of the UN working group on indigenous population held in January 1999. Mr.Kaneswar Narzary,the Chief of Bodoland Executive Council and Mr.Derhagra Mochahary MLA represented the United Boro Nationalist Liberation Front, Dr.Devkanta Ramchiary MLA People’s Democratic Front, Mr.Sansuma Khunggur Bwismuthiary ex MP as the Chairman of World Bodo Conference, Mr.Urkhw Gwra Brahma the Chairman of All Bodo Students’ Union, Mr.Jebra Mochahary and Mr.Rabilal Basumatary as representatives of Tribal Welfare Society participated in the session.
