P.N. Syiem Stand tall in 9^th Meghalaya State Assembly

As the time pass by from one day to another day, the ninth Meghalaya State Assembly, which came into being on March 1 in the year 2003, its face kept on changing specially in the replacement of the leadership. Mukul Sangma, however would finally dissolve on March 6 2018. At present thirteen sitting Legislators, which include six from the ruling congress have resigned. Notable however is Pynshgnain N.Syiem Chief Executive Member of the District Khasi Hills, also Congress Legislators, who stick to his guns till the last, challenging the dual membership. P.N. Syiem now led the newly formed regional People s Democratic Front (PDF) and would continue to fight from the Mawsynram constituency of East Khasi Hills being challenged by Bureaucrat Himalaya Shangpliang of the Congress.

NPP SHOW OF STRENGTH

As many as eight Legislators and seven Members of District Council tagged themselves to the National People’s Party (NPP) in a show of strength at polo grounds in Shillong, the Tura Members of Parliament also NPP President, Conrad K. Sangma said “What Mukul did to the state, it is not easy to change but as a team the challenge would be met, in making ‘mission 2018’ NPP for ‘new Meghalaya”. Those who have crossed over from the Congress are Prestone Tynsong, Comingone Ymbon, Sniawbhalang Dhar and Ngaitlang Dhar and Rowell Lyngdoh. Other from the United Democratiuc Party (UDP) Remington Pyngrope and two independent Hopeful Bamon and Stephanson Mukhim, besides six sitting members of the Jaintia Hills District Council and one from the Khasi Hills. Conrad expressed his regrets that the way the present Chief Minister is working, has shattered the dreams of former leaders like Captain Williamson Sangma and Brington Buhai Lyngdoh.

LJP losses four candidates

Just month way for the Assembly Election the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) Meghalaya state suffered a major blow when four of its aspiring candidates resigned from party.Those candidates who resigned from the Party include Tony Marbaniang from North Shillong, Arelitha K Sangma from Selsella, Banrilang Jungai from Jowai and Denis Tynsiar from Pynursla.

Jamil Ahmed the State President said that the reason for the resignation of these candidates was due to inability of party to meet with their monetary demands. He added that four demands from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh for the upcoming polls and LJP is a party for the poor and does not have such huge fund. He urged the party workers to stick to the Party’s principles which are to serve the poor and bring a transparent and clean administration in the state and to bring power to the poor.  Meanwhile the Party will soon declare a fresh list of candidates.

The four Musketeers entry to BJP Meghalaya

Who don’t want to be part of the growing and happy family? Is welcoming question posed by the Bhratiya Janata Party (BJP) state President Shibun Lyngdoh as four important legislators of the Meghalaya Assembly, had shifted their allegiance. On the fore front is Sanbor Shullai State President of the National Congress Party (NCP) former Deputy speaker of the State Assembly representing Laban constituency hoped to the BJP bandwagon. Secondly A.L. Hek a strong contender from the Pynthor-umkhrah constituency has rejoined BJP but for some time was in the congress camp as minister of health and family welfare, under the Mukul Sangma Ministry but was dropped last year. Hek was the first BJP Legislators when he won in 1998 and subsequently in 2003 and 2008 polls. The other two legislators are Robinus Syngkon who was parliamentary Secretary and also Justin Dkhar both independents. Khasi Hills District Council members Ricky Shullai the nephew of Sanbor Shullai also join the BJP.

Year of Change ... Is it?

As the old year give way to a new year, like winter season being a cold and stagnant replaced by the oncoming spring, there is always a fresh spell of wind, coinciding with the people polls to the Meghalaya Legislature which citizens are welcoming a “wind of change.” This is the prevailing mood, especially of young voters, who for the first time would exercise their responsibility to elect their representative. There is a strong feeling, that if the state is to really progress in all and every aspect, there is the need of the blowing win of change. People can no longer be mere spectators of the ‘dikats’ and games played by their representatives, because there is a genuine resolve to follow up the day to day administration to be just and fair. It is therefore for the people to select and elect leaders having a foresight, dedication, and determination and also sacrifice their self and narrow interests. The 2018 polls certainly have voters who are more matured and conscious of their rights and not to be lured time and again by hollow and empty promises.

NPP finalise its candidates

The National People’s Party (NPP) today officially produce its 50 member’s candidates for the upcoming election during the rally in Polo Ground Shillong. NPP aims to form Govt in the upcoming Election 2018

Eight legislators today joined the National People’s Party (NPP) at a public rally at Polo Fifth ground. Those eight legislators includes Congress rebels Rowell Lyngdoh (Mawkyrwat), Sniawbhalang Dhar (Nartiang), Comingone Ymbon (Raliang), Prestone Tynsong (Pynursla), and Ngaitlang Dhar (Umroi), former UDP member Remington Pyngrope (Mawkynrew) and Independent candidates Hopeful Bamon (Sutnga-Saipung) and Stephanson Mukhim (Amlarem).

NPP also announces and produces the names of 50 candidates at the rally. While speaking at the rally State NPP President WR Kharlukhi said that the number of candidates might increase to 53-54 as the party is still in the need to find out candidates from Khliehriat and Mawthadraishan constituencies. He added that the party “target is to win the elections and secondly to see that Congress loses

Although eight sitting Legislators of Meghalaya Congress had resigned from their posts and quit the party on December 29 yet the formal process of joining the NPP was done today at the presence of its National President Conrad Sangma.

Woman's wave this political season in Meghalaya

 With decision of Roshan Warjri, representatives of the prestigious Mawkhar Constituency not to plunges in the polls, there is a woman’s wave that is slowly and steadily up-coming in the male dominated scenario where women are not encouraged in taking part in open political affairs but guide affairs of administrative from fire-place at home giving advice indirectly to the male dominated Dorbar of Assembly. Of late however women are coming up to the forefront, though Meghalaya is yet to see a woman Chief Minister which would be something unprecedented. This time women would also be coming out to contest in both rural and urban constituencies. Mawhati constituency in Ri-bhoi represented by Julius Dorphang who is in custody of pending case of sexual offences, a woman candidate Karbani has already saddling her horde. So also Bety Nongbet seeking a BJP ticket from Jirang has already kicked off her campaign at Khanapara-Phamkynshoh, bordering Assam.
