A disappearing if not neglected site, abounded with history and legends in the bygone era of yore, lie just a stone thrown from NH 44. One of the most collapsed monoliths is lying on the ground shown in the picture. The locale where the ruins are located on a hillock is now also called, by the local villagers as Loomdaija, besides its ancient name ‘Yawdaija’ in Mookyndur Village, West Jaintia Hills (i.e. the market where boiled rice was sold). The site of the ruins, had it been restored is worth visiting especially for academicians or researchers and also can become a tourist destination.

The Bharatiya Janata Party Government of Arunachal Pradesh celebrated the completion of its one year in the state at Namsai on 23rd January in a grand way. Namsai was fully decked up for the celebration, witnessing the presence of all the BJP legislators in the state. The government led by Pema Khandu turned saffron in January 2017 and no major hitches were observed in the last one year. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who is also one of the three legislators of Namsai district, made all-out efforts to host the event along with the other two, Chow Tewa Mein and Chow Zingnu Namchoom.

She often makes noise in political space and in many cases she wins the game as a simple, straight forward and energetic politician of India. But not all the time, she could convert her outbursts in her favour and it backfired. Here is one such development, where she wanted to be a saviour of Bengali people, but ended up as a promoter of minority vote banks. But her appeasement policy towards the religious community in West Bengal was never a secret for the people of India and the talkative Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already earned the reputation in switching over the minority vote banks from the Communist Party to her Trinamool Congress. Now perhaps it is her turn to continue soothing the vote banks. So when Assam released the first draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) on the midnight of 31 December 2017, Ms Banerjee found a reason to react in a negative light looking at the delicate Bengali-Assamese relationship.

Ever heard of an Urdu poet from the Northeast? Presenting Rohan Gogoi – the ‘Chasing Maya’ famed English novelist, who has now debuted as an Urdu poet with the launch of his maiden Hindi-Urdu poetry collection, “Rahgeer-e-Rehguzar”. The multi-lingual Corporate Communicator, who debuted as a published author in 2012, has penned over 100 Hindi-Urdu poems and lyrics so far. Remarkably, his works have been endorsed by none other than the superstar Bollywood lyricist, Sameer Anjaan.

It was a cold November afternoon at Silchar. I was busy with some official papers especially assigned to me when the Prosecution Sub-Inspector produced before me a young prisoner. The prisoner with a robust health was the member of a terrorist group of Mizoram. I asked some routine questions as is the procedure. He was arrested by police near the public bus stand at Silchar merely on suspicion. By the time he was produced before me, he had completed two years in jail without any trial. This is a serious lapse on the part of our justice delivery system. On minute perusal of the Case Diary, I found that the Mizo police were informed about the detention of the youth in Assam. But there was no response from Mizoram side. I decided to close the case and release him from jail forthwith.
