APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India said, “Always think what you can give to society, and not what society can give you”. Keeping in mind these words of the former President, Shreya Singh Pundir, a young, agile and energetic girl of Labac tea estate, 25 km from here, has dedicated herself to the cause of humanity. Her mind is pregnant with creative and noble ideas with the vision to serve in particular the ignorant and not so educated women folk of tea gardens for amelioration of their socio-economic condition. To make better use of her vacation from Uppasala University in Sweden where she is pursuing her Ph.D course in cell and molecular biology, she organised an awareness camp on health and hygiene for women workers of Labac and Tarapore tea gardens recently.

James Sangma removed from Home portfolios

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today has agreed to strips the home portfolio from his elder brother James K Sangma and assigns him the department of taxation and information & public relations but retained power, food, civil supplies & consumers affairs and law.

A notification issued by the chief secretary M. S Rao on Tuesday evening said, “The governor on the advice of the chief minister is pleased to order the reallocation of portfolios of the following (four) ministers”.

Lahkmen Rymbui of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has been made new home minister of the state apart from other department.

Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) will now take charge of the DCA department.

Meanwhile apart from health & family welfare and arts & culture, BJP minister A.L Hek will also look after home (jail) and home (passport).

It may be mentioned here that the coalition partners including UDP, PDF, BJP and others have been demanding removal of James as home minister over the alleged illegal transportation of coal in the state.

The Khelo India programme have been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass-root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.

It is the biggest sporting event in India held for 2 categories, namely under-17 years school students and under-21 college students. It was first launched in 2018 in New Delhi under the name Khelo India School Games (KISG). Haryana emerged as top performers in the 1st edition & the 2nd edition was launched in Pune, Maharashtra, where Maharashtra emerged as the top performers.

CoMSO to implement its own ILP 

Chairman of Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organization (CoMSO) Robertjune Kharjahrin said that the Union will implement its own Inner Line Permit (ILP) from 12 February 2020 to keep track on the flow of illegal immigrants in the State. Speaking after the evening sit-in demonstration Robertjune Kharjahrin said that due to the ignorant of the Union Government to the demand of the State Government, it has compelled the Union to implement its own ILP in the state.

“The time has come to implement ‘No ILP, Direct Action’ and check the flow of influx in the state” he added.

Robertjune Kharjahrin said that the union will visit all check post in the state especially in the border areas and deployed its own members to assist the Directorate of the Infiltration and help the department detect and dispose illegal immigrants without proper documents. The Union also urged the Governor to assent the MRSSA amendment ordinance

The Chairman also urged the headman and dorbar shnong to be vigil in detecting illegal immigrants in their respective localities.
