The only thing people need to do here is to strive hard and focus on the goal and to face the future with courage and determination. In today’s economy, which has been rightly captioned as “knowledge economy”, there is no place for dwelling on past glories, successes or even failures. A society has to adapt itself to the changing times and place its foot on equal ground with the rest of the world. With myriad tribes and clans, especially, the Ao-Naga society, the Chief Guest exhorted the gathering to overlook these differences and work together so as to usher in change and progress in the society.
The Guest of Honor, after giving a quick glimpse of the various Ages of the Human history till date put forward this questio to the audience, “Where do you stand as students in this fast age?” Amidst all the privileges being enjoyed by the students, he stressed that what one does and how one does it is crucial to what one becomes. He asserted that the freedom that one gets (as most of the students are away from home) is to acquire responsibility and not to misuse it. People perish due to the lack of good vision but then again perseverance to become good pushes one to achieve success. In the job of attaining success one needs to ask “How do I shape my future and not what the future holds for me?” because God is not partial and He has given every individual the same opportunities. He stated that the students in Shillong were the privileged lot because of its cosmopolitan nature where one can learn from all the different cultures. But then again he reminded the students not to forget or overlook their own culture in the pursuit of higher knowledge and ecumenism. Quoting different characters from the Bible, Mr. Koratemjen encouraged the students, especially, the ladies, to be bold and effective in being catalysts of change and development in the society by surrendering their lives and plans to God.
These words of inspiration and encouragement were soundly acknowledged by the student community and the event concluded with much gaiety as the program was packed with songs and dramas with a grand Ao-Naga feast to wrap it up.
